The Raja Yoga and Meditation Center is a unique, non-profit yoga studio located in Graduate Hospital dedicated to reaching a wider range of students and sending teachers out into the community. This Yoga Alliance certified teacher training program is part-time, includes 9 weekend afternoon and evening sessions, and takes place over four months, running from the weekend of October 12th until mid February. The weekend intensives take place roughly every three weekends, making it very manageable for busy, working people, and students.
Students of all experience levels are welcome in this training, never put off diving deeper into this great tradition! The sooner your start, the more benefit you will derive for the rest of your life. Whether your intention is to deepen your own knowledge and practice, or do a significant amount of teaching, we welcome all comers assuming it is a good fit.
The small group size, between 5-10 students, will provide an opportunity for lots of individual attention, and the chance/requirement to assist in real classes during the second half of the training. Make an appointment with lead instructor Wes Tudor now, to see if the training is a good fit for you, and possibly secure a space in this unique program.
The asana training is predominantly in Classical Hatha Yoga, which lends itself well to community outreach work and provides a good foundation for learning other styles. Their will also be an introduction to and some training in Vinyasa Yoga as well. Lead instructor Wes Tudor brings a specialization in meditation, and on Yogic and Eastern philosophy and how it can lead to self-transformation.
The meditation training will be divided between traditional seated, mantra-based practice, and learning to lead high quality guided relaxations and visualizations for students in Savasana.
Other unique aspects of the training include access to biofeedback equipment including an EEG machine to assist with meditation training. Also, students interested participating in our non-profit yoga outreach programs are especially encouraged to register. Opportunities to be placed in one of these programs will be available upon graduation, as well as the opportunity to solidify one’s skills by teaching at our home studio. Testimonials
“The Raja Yoga Teacher Certification program provides a well-rounded approach to the yogic tradition and offers students a much deeper understanding of the practice beyond postures alone. The training has not only prepared me to confidently teach a yoga class, but has also enriched my personal life, most noticeably through the application of Ayurveda and pranayama practices. The program provided an open forum for reflection and discussion of many life topics and challenged previous ways of approaching them.” ……. Sarah P.
“It is hard to verbalize in a short paragraph the depth of this program, but I would say to people considering signing up that you will not regret it. After every session I have walked away feeling energized and accomplished. Not only will I be certified to teach yoga and pass some of what I have learned onto others, but I know my true self better, I start each day with a healthier, more relaxed, attitude and I appreciate so many things in my life more deeply.”……. Stacey D.
“I got more out of the teacher training class than I ever expected to. There’s much, much more to yoga than poses: it’s philosophy, nutrition, anatomy, and even more. The attentive, supportive, hands-on classes were simply amazing.”……. Matt W.
“The teacher training at Raja Yoga not only gave me a greater understanding of asana and yogic philosophy, but also of myself and the world around me.”……. Mary O.
“Enrolling in the teacher training at Raja Yoga was hands-down one of the best things I’ve ever done for myself. I learned so much more than I ever expected to about philosophy, spirituality, meditation, nutrition, the power of breathing as a link between mind and body, and the subtle energies of the human body. Wes has a relaxed, informal style and a down-to-earth approach that made the experience both enjoyable and informative. After 15 years of practicing yoga, I had a vague sense that there was more to yoga than just sun salutations, and I knew I wanted to learn more about it, but I wasn’t sure where to begin. Wes made the whole thing into an experience that I found myself truly looking forward to every three weeks. I highly recommend this course for anyone who is even remotely thinking about expanding their awareness of yoga.”
